# Create your first view

A view decides which items you see and how the items are arranged. Every view reads the same items. A change made in one view shows up in all of them.

Your organization starts with three views: Projects, Tasks and Workload. Add your own view from the sidebar.

## Pick the shape

A view holds tabs. Each tab picks its own shape: list, board, Gantt, schedule, timesheet, mind map or chart. Each tab also has its own columns, grouping and sorting.

## Scope it to types

A view names the types it shows. Every tab of a view shares the same scope. The starter Projects view shows Projects. Tasks and Workload both show Tasks and Issues.

## Group and narrow

Grouping is the axis the shape reads. A board groups by a field and turns that field's values into columns. The starter Tasks board groups by Status.

Filters narrow which items reach the view.

## Who can see it

A new view is visible to anyone in the organization. To restrict a view, or to see why a colleague cannot find one of yours, read [Who can see a view](../../roles-and-access/view-access/).

> **Restricting a view hides the view, not the items in it.** Roles decide who may read the items themselves. See [Roles and permissions](../../roles-and-access/roles-and-permissions/).
